The Lyric Hammersmith asked me to take some photographs to promote their highly-anticipated pantomime Cinderella which will run from 24th November 2012 to 6th January 2013. The photo shoot focused on one of the production’s star performers, Steven Webb.
One of the perks of my job is meeting lots of interesting people, and Stevie must be one of the loveliest people I have photographed in a long while. He’s had a diverse career that has included theatre, film, and television and he is full of interesting stories and anecdotes. He is also no stranger to the Lyric Hammersmith as he has appeared in their last two pantomime productions, Aladdin—2011 & Dick Whittington and his cat—2010.
Steven will be performing two roles this year… on stage in the role of ‘Buttons’ and offstage in the role of Creative Associate.

Alison Jiear came to my studio in February looking to have some headshots taken and also to get some portraits taken for publicity purposes.
Alison is an Australian actor, singer and cabaret star who has a fantastically diverse portfolio, from singing with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Songs of Praise , through to appearing as Shawntel on Jerry Springer the Opera. Alison is a recording artist on her own right and has released several albums, and she has also sung backing vocals on tracks by Leona Lewis, Robbie Williams and Will Young.
The make-up artist was Carlo Di Caterino, an excellent make-up artist I have worked with on several occasions.
As the photos show, Alison is great fun and I hope some of the images caught her humour and warmth. Alison has just finished her brand new website and you can see many of the images from the session on it.

Recently I took the headshots for the actor David Alwyn
David trained with the Birmingham School of Acting, and since graduating he’s studied with the Globe Theatre and the RSC
Whenever I do an actor’s headshot session I always like to try shooting both indoors and out. As well as the more traditional head and shoulders images, it is great to get some portraits as well.
David was great to work with and I highly recommend him as a model. Upcoming projects for David include working with BAFTA award winning director Michael Bay Clifford, on his latest independent feature film.

I have blogged previously about individual performer’s headshots, but I wanted to show some examples of the headshots I do for theatres. I do a lot of work for the Lyric Hammersmith in particular, and they always like me to photograph their entire cast for the programmes and promotional purposes. Here are a few of the portraits I have taken in the past year:
I photographed Matthew Kelly in Comedians. Matthew now uses this image as his Spotlight photograph.
Tanya Moodie who I photographed for A Thousand Stars Explode in the Sky.
A headshot of the actor Tom Sturridge who played William Carlisle in Punk Rock.
Kulvinder Ghir, photographed for Comedians at the Lyric Hammersmith.

Last week I photographed the tenor Alex Vearey-Roberts. Alex needed a headshot for publicity purposes, but he was also looking for a some more relaxed portraits for his website and for promotional usage.
Alex is a student at the International Opera School at the Royal College of Music where he is studying with Timothy Evans-Jones. He has had a lot of success in competitions, and recent achievements have included winning the audience prize at the London Welsh Young Singer competition and appearing as a finalist in the Les Azuriales Young Singers Competition amongst others.
Alex has performed at the Brangwyn Hall as part of the Swansea Music Festival and at the Pump Rooms in Bath as part of the Bath Recital Artists’ Trust concert series. Oratorio highlights include Mozart’s Mass in C Minor (Mayfield Festival), and Mendelsohn’s Psalm 115 with Vox Musica and the South Bank Sinfonia at the Anghiari music festival, Italy.
In recent RCM productions Alex received critical acclaim in the role of Contino Belfiore in Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera. Alex’s next major performance will be as Vasek in the RCM International Opera School’s summer production of the Bartered Bride which is playing between June 30th – July 4th at the Britten Theatre.

Recently I had the pleasure of photographing the opera singer Rebecca van den Berg. Currently Rebecca is doing a Master’s degree in opera at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. A soprano, Rebecca has starred in a number of operas and recitals. She received fantastic reviews playing Anne Trulove in Stravinsky’s Rake’s Progress for Opera East Production’s 2007 tour. Other roles include performing as the soprano soloist at the Handel’s Chandos Anthems under Stephen Cleobury with the Academy of Ancient Music in the 2007 Cambridge festival; and performing recitals in the Edinburgh Festival, the National Portrait Gallery and the Paxos International Music Festival in Greece. Rebecca’s upcoming performances include Rossigols Amoreux in Loughton.
Opera singers, like other performers need headshots for professional promotion. To see more performer’s headshots please visit my performer’s headshots website.

As part of my studio shoot with the make-up artist Christina Rose and the hair stylist Ken Madgin, I took some shots of the actress Lucinda Millward.
Lucinda is currently appearing to rave reviews in An English Tragedy at the Watford Palace. She trained at Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and has subsequently go one to star on stage in Touch, Alphabetical Order and IWitness at the Finborough Theatre. Lucinda’s television credits include the Bill, Doctors and Sensitive Skin which she starred in opposite Joanna Lumley.
Together we worked to create some striking image. In these two pictures Ken gave Lucinda a very cool, futuristic look that was enhanced by Christina’s imaginative eye make-up. I lit the images using coloured gels over the flashes. For more information please click on the images, and click again for an even larger photograph.

On Monday I did some headshots of the actor Charlie Goode. Charlie’s recent musical theatre productions include Batboy the Musical and Anything Goes at the Bridewell Theatre. I always work with the client to get as many good photographs as possible, so they can chose more than one look if they fancy. These are 3 of the final images Charlie chose:
We used different lighting techniques to get different styles. To get a more in depth description, please double click on each image.
